Western Balkans in 17 Days: Seven Countries from Belgrade to Prizren

Seven countries without the checklist feel: one direction from the Danube to the Albanian mountains and Lake Ohrid, two nights wherever there is something to see, and no day built around a border.

A 17-day private route through seven countries, from Belgrade to Prizren: Sarajevo, Mostar, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Tirana, Lake Ohrid and Skopje on the way. Most stops get two nights, there are six border crossings, and no border falls on a day with a timed ticket.

Why this route works

  • The issue sketch was 15–18 days. At 15 days, seven countries means a border or a hotel change almost every day, which is the pattern the critical reviews complain about. Set at 17 days, with two-night stops everywhere except Mokra Gora, Tirana, Skopje and Prizren.
  • A 14–15 day version must drop a country rather than compress: drop Kosovo (end in Skopje), or drop Dubrovnik (Mostar → Kotor via Trebinje).
  • Six border crossings. None falls on a day with a timed ticket.
  • Kosovo is last on purpose. Serbia does not treat entry into Kosovo from Albania, North Macedonia or Montenegro as a legal entry, so a route that entered Kosovo that way and then crossed into Serbia could be refused. This route starts in Serbia and leaves Kosovo by air.
  • Belgrade → Sarajevo in one day is about 6 h with stops. Split with the Mokra Gora night.

Make it your own

  • 15 days, six countries: drop Kosovo and end in Skopje.
  • 15 days, six countries: drop Dubrovnik and run Mostar → Kotor via Trebinje.
  • 19–21 days: add Berat and Gjirokastër between Tirana and Ohrid, or Novi Sad before Mokra Gora.
  • Do not compress to 14 days with all seven countries: that is a border or a hotel change almost every day.

Planning note: Drive times are estimates, not guaranteed journey times. Border procedures, vehicles, guides, entrances, accommodation and all inclusions are verified for the requested dates and nationalities before any proposal is confirmed. No fixed price or departure is advertised.
